Reading B Week 15: Snow White

Image
(Snow White and the Evil Queen from Once Upon A Time ) Once upon a time, in the winter, a queen sat at her spinning wheel.  She pricked her finger & 3 drops of blood fell on the snow.  She thought to herself if only I had a child with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as this ebony wood.  Within a year, the queen had that child, but died.  The king remarried to a woman that didn't want anyone to be more beautiful than her.  She even had a looking glass she stood in to ask if she was the fairest in the land.  Every day it told her she was indeed the fairest in the land.  But Snow White grew prettier every day. Once Snow White turned 7 years old, the queen asked her mirror the same question.  The mirror told her that she was indeed still fair, but that Snow White was prettier than her now.  So the queen sent a huntsman to take Snow out into the woods and kill her.  The huntsman didn't want to do th...

Reading A Week 15: The Fisherman and His Wife

Image
( The Fisherman ) Once upon a time, a fisherman lived with his wife in an old hovel.  He went out to fish so that they could have something to eat.  He caught a flounder but the fish spoke to him.  I'm an enchanted prince.  Please don't eat me as I wouldn't taste very good anyway.  Just because the fish could speak, the fisherman let him go.  When he went home his wife was upset because he didn't catch anything.  He told her he did, but it was an enchanted fish so he let it go.  The wife was angry, saying he should have asked for something.  He told his wife they didn't need anything.  His wife told him she was tired of a smelly old hovel, ask for a nice cottage.  So the man went back, called out to the fish & told him what his wife said.  The fish said, go home, she already has it.  So he went home to see that they not only had a cottage, but new nice furniture, a full larder, and a garden with lots of fruits v...

Week 2 Story: The Horse of Hogwarts

Image
It started out as a rumor at Hogwarts that a horse was running loose in the Dark Forest, hunting for the lion of Gryffindor.  Bits and pieces of the rumor kept getting back to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and being the curious sorts they were, they had to investigate.  They started at the logical place to ask for information about creatures in the Dark Forest, they went to see Hagrid.  "It's true," said Hagrid, "there's some ruddy horse out there stirring up the centaurs into a fury.  He keeps going on about needing to find the lion of Gryffindor.  The centaurs are in a right frenzy because he won't leave them alone about it.  I'm afraid there's going to be a rebellion amongst the centaurs if I can't find this horse & get him out of there!" As it was unlikely there was a creature Hagrid couldn't find and reason with, the trio figured they better help him out.  A rebellion of centaurs couldn't be good for Hogwarts.  Harry and Ron to...
